The post: To lead the provision of all Key Stage 4 and 5 Health and Social Care at Malbank School and Sixth Form College. The ability to teach A level Sociology would be an advantage but is not essential. The post could be full time but we are flexible and would consider candidates who were able to do .8/ .9 The Social Sciences Faculty: The Social Science team are experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated specialists who are committed to offering a varied and interesting suite of subjects at both KS4 and KS5. We offer: GCSE and A level Psychology, A level Sociology, Health and Social Care Btec at KS4 and 5. Our skills based Opening Minds curriculum for year 7 students which is led by Mrs. Brown, the Head of Psychology.
Currently, our department consists of one full time teacher and two part time teachers covering the spectrum of subjects in the Social Science suite. All members of the department have experience of examination marking at A level and one is actively involved in the development of courses etc. at a senior level with the exam board. We are now seeking to recruit someone who has considerable experience in teaching Health and Social Care and has either already had experience of middle leadership or has the skills and personal competencies to move this ever- growing faculty forward in this specific subject.
We take pride in the creation our own learning resources and do not encourage our students to rely on textbooks. We encourage independent learning in the young people studying Social Sciences and aim to equip them with the skills necessary to study further. We currently follow the Edexcel specification for both GCSE and A level Psychology choosing to cover the Criminal Psychology option at A level. The Welsh board has been selected for the new specification for A level Sociology. Health and Social Care both follow the Edexcel specification. Last year’s results: KS5: 100% PASS. All exceeded their targets and we enjoyed grades across the full spectrum to a DD*. Our flexibility enabled our students to follow bespoke programmes.
As this is the first year of the Tech Award, there are no prior results. Our priorities include: Raising standards of attainment at KS4, Continued development of resources for all of our new courses. A focus on special interest groups, particularly boys, SEN and Pupil Premium students. We need someone who: Is an excellent teacher and keen to teach across both KS4 and KS5, Has enthusiasm for the Social Sciences and for working with young people. Is able to deliver and lead the provision of Health and Social Care. Willing to make a positive contribution to our team.
The post would suit someone who: Has excellent subject knowledge, Is organised and imaginative in their approach to the Social Sciences, Is ambitious in ensuring progress for their students, their colleagues, themselves and our school, Is child centred, solution focussed and emotionally intelligent, Is resilient and able to lead from the front, Is confident in their use of ICT, data management and assessment systems.
